Aggy Writes Reluctantly #001
Would You Read It?
The Love Hypothesis
Greetings rookies, I am your lovely host, Agastya Raichand, and I am here with a new blog series, known as "Would You Read It?" Here I shall be putting the synopsis of a book and a 3 star review of the book, and you shall decide if you are interested in reading it or not?
Synopsis
As a third-year Ph.D. candidate, Olive Smith doesn't believe in lasting romantic relationships--but her best friend does, and that's what got her into this situation. Convincing Anh that Olive is dating and well on her way to a happily ever after was always going to take more than hand-wavy Jedi mind tricks: Scientists require proof. So, like any self-respecting biologist, Olive panics and kisses the first man she sees.

pic 1 That man is none other than Adam Carlsen, a young hotshot professor--and well-known ass. Which is why Olive is positively floored when Stanford's reigning lab tyrant agrees to keep her charade a secret and be her fake boyfriend. But when a big science conference goes haywire, putting Olive's career on the Bunsen burner, Adam surprises her again with his unyielding support and even more unyielding... six-pack abs.

Suddenly their little experiment feels dangerously close to combustion. And Olive discovers that the only thing more complicated than a hypothesis on love is putting her own heart under the microscope.
Review
I understand why this is so well loved, but it just didn't work for me. I loved the main character and I thought overall she brought a lot to the table in making this an entertaining read with her quirky personality. The friend group surrounding Olive was a nice addition to the story and I loved seeing their interactions. (Honestly would've loved to see MORE of the friend group tbh.) I hate that Adam fell so flat for me, because I know we get to know him pretty well, but even in those moments where we learn about him, I viewed him as this dull and uninteresting character.

(OOP.) I didn't like this feeling that the author was trying to convince me of his ANGSTINESS. It could've easily been written in a way that was less pushy. Overall I think I would've liked the story more had there been a few more sub plots implemented. I felt the stories structure as I was reading it and I just wish it would've felt less like a step one, step two, step three, kind of situation.

...I also just struggle with books where miscommunication comes into play, but that's on me and my book preferences. The book is not at fault for that one.
